Getting ready to make the move to a new apartment? A few weeks ago we covered what you'll need to do about a month before the move, and this week we're following up with what to do the week before AND the day before you load up that moving truck! Here is part two in our moving tips series!
Here are the moving tips you need for the week before you move:
- Start packing. There are tons of things you won't need in the next week, so go room by room and start filling those moving boxes. Label them to make things easier for unloading.
- Call your cable, internet, and any other service providers to figure out when you need to do to shut everything off. Make sure you leave enough time in your schedule to gather any necessary items — like cords, remotes, or cable boxes — you may need to return.
- Also set up an appointment to have the new place hooked up.
- DO NOT grocery shop. The less food you have in the fridge or cupboards, the less you'll have to move.
The day before you move:
- Make sure you're all packed up the day BEFORE moving day. You don't want to be packing and loading at the same time.
- Pack an overnight bag. You don't want to have to be searching though boxes before bed.
- Call to confirm A) the moving company if you have one B) anyone helping you move C) the plan for kids/pets.
- Keep cleaning supplies together so you can easily give your place a good clean on moving day.
- If you're using a moving company, take pictures of your furniture and valuables, in case they're damaged during moving.
- Fill any holes and clean up any mess.
- Clean out the fridge and pack your cooler.
- Go to bed early!
Moving can be a big task – both physically and mentally. Being prepared can significantly reduce your stress!
